The Alabama State Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program (VLP) was created in 1991 by the Alabama State Bar Board of Bar Commissioners to provide an organized vehicle through which lawyers can volunteer their services on a pro bono basis in civil matters to indigent citizens in their community. In the fall of 1995, the Birmingham Bar Association in conjunction with Legal Services of Metro Birmingham, Inc., now known as Legal Services Alabama, established the BVLP in Birmingham. See the Founders page for more information.
The provision of quality legal services to Alabama’s low income citizens is a high priority for the Alabama State Bar.
The Alabama State Bar VLP staff includes a full-time director, Linda L. Lund, Esq. and executive assistant, Katherine Church. The Birmingham VLP staff includes a full-time director, Kelli H. Mauro, Esq. and Intake Specialist Elizabeth Pilgrim. Blakely Davis is the full-time director of the Mobile Bar Association VLP with a full staff and Lee Ann Pasker, Esq. is the director of the Huntsville Bar Association VLP.
